So I left here about 4 on Friday, to head to Yates to take my son to his father (thats where we meet). I get no more then 10-15 miles down the road, and the vibration in the truck his HORRIBLE. We've had a vibration for a while now, due to a bad tire, but this time it was awful. Then all the sudden there is this BANG, and it quits. I freak, grab the steering wheel, and expect the truck to start rolling across the field. Auto assume that I blew a tire. Nothing. Hmm. So I pull over, look underneath, check all the tires, nothing. Call my hubby. Explain it all to him. When I tell him there is no evidence of anything. He says drive it.
About another mile down the road. There are about 10 deer crossing. So I slow wayyyyyyy down to avoid a wreck. When I go to speed back up. The truck is bouncing all over the damned place. Great! I pull over, get out, take a look. Transmission fluid sprayed EVERYWHERE, and its just pouring out from under the truck. Mother *(^&%$$!!!!!!!! Call hubby. Tell him whats going on. He starts cussin also. Call my ex hubby. Tell him, "Sorry can't meet you tonight" explain to him. And offer him fuel money (since I didn't even make it to the fueling station to fill up) if he wants to drive the whole way. He says sure, no prob.
Hubby gets there. Thinks the rear seal went out in the tranny. WE pull it into the nearest drive, after the couple had stopped and told us we could. And he drops the drive line, so that I can tow him home. Then he realizes, not as bad as we thought. The tranny is fine (which would of been about 3 grand to fix), its the Transfer case thats broken and cracked in several places. The vacuum was not allowing the front end to disengage, which was sending vibrations from the bad tire, up the drive shaft, in turn broke the case. Not as expensive. Awesome. Keeping a positive head, we decide could of been wayyyyyyyy worse!
He starts making phone calls. We find a 241 C case. Ours is a 241 D. Get the C transfer case, look at them, after pulling ours out of the Dodge. And they LOOK identical. Only one way to find out right? Today he tears apart them both. Puts all the guts into the 241 C, out of our 241 D. Gets under the truck. Starts to bolt it up. Son of a monkey, the damned thing don't bolt up. Get it back out, compare again, and realize that the front bolts are all off by about 1/4 of an inch. CRAPPPPPPPPPP!
All this, and I cancelled my Scentsy open house, because hubby needed help working on the truck.
Start making MORE phone calls. No one is open on weekends. What happened to auto salvage yards that were open on Saturdays for shade tree mechanics? Grrr. So I call my daddy. He starts asking questions. Starts making phone calls. Calls me back. THINKS he might have one come Monday. If not. He's a welder, he THINKS he can attempt to weld it back together. Can't hurt to let him try right? If he succeeds, we have a transfer case again. If he doesn't, it was junk anyway. So who cares right? We'd just be back to square one. Hubby is PISSED at this point, after wasting all day working on it for it not to work.
So we decide to go over to a friends house. Original plan was to go to a bonfire. Bonfire cancelled, just hung out at the house instead. Which IMO is much better since its FREEZING OUTSIDE! LOL End up having a few drinks, and playing a game called "Things" and laughed until our faces hurt! It turned out to be a rather great night! I had messaged everyone this AM about my Scentsy open house being cancelled. At the end of the night. It turned out to be a successful NON party. Sold alot, and still ahve a couple orders coming in. PLUS, gained a new recruit!! Welcome to the team Tara!!!
My personal Moral of the story. Keep a positive head if possible. Things could be WAY worse.
Granted, we are out of a family vehicle for a while. I am putting tags on the Toyota on Monday, so we have a LEGAL vehicle again, but things really could be worse! Just another day in Paradise right? LOL
